I have been eyeing this cute little houses for a while now. They sit near the mountain resort where my husband works in rural VA. I dropped him off at work this morning so I could have the car for the day, and took the opportunity to snap a few photos. I didn't linger very long because it was bitterly cold, my fingers were aching even through my mittens as I walked around taking pics with the car idling. I'd really like to go back when the weather is better. This is one of the rare locales where I think my two little boys could run around while I take photos, which is what prevents me from photographing many other abandonments I come across.

Anyway, there are three buildings, all of them made of stone. One seems to be some sort of storage building, and the other two are like miniature houses. Here is the storage building, which has a lone chimney next to it.

kay, this was once a Dolly Parton based dinner Show in Orlando Florida, however, it closed 2 years ago and recently reopened as a Flea Market that isnt quite ready to be open.

They made no repairs to the building and the way the building is being used it is reminiscent of an end of the world/fallen and reconstructed society films. It was cool and much of the building is still not in use. Some more photos inside..

As promised, here’s more photos of the beautiful old theater in Birmingham, Alabama I posted before. Part of the reason I got to shoot inside The Lyric Theatre was to compare and contrast the condition of the Lyric, versus the condition of the fully restored Alabama Theatre across the street. The folks who own The Alabama also own The Lyric and due to some personal and professional connections, I had free run of both buildings to shoot over nearly six hours. Obviously this gave me and two other photographers/explorers time to see things that many folks would never notice on a causal tour. It also resulted in 400+ photos just from my camera. Thus said, I’m going to be posting these images for some time to come.

Bannerman's Castle --- WWW.XYDEXX.COM
Bannerman's Castle in May 2008

I got some distressing news from fellow ruin-explorer Rob Yasinsac the other day: A large section of Bannerman's Castle, the abandoned weapons arsenal on the Hudson River, collapsed sometime last weekend.

I first started visiting Bannerman's Castle about twenty years ago, and every year we'd always notice the structures would crumble a little more. Now there's a huge piece missing from the main tower, and this no doubt makes the whole building dangerously unstable.

Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be enough money to preserve all the buildings on the island. Only a month ago, the Bannerman's Castle Trust was trying to raise funds to restore one of the towers on the breakwater because the foundation has deteriorated to the point where it may fall into the river by the end of this winter.

Hi there!

I'm new to this community, and nearly as new to the whole world of photography. The one thing I'm pretty familiar with is my love of abandoned places.

And so I hope some of you can help me out in finding abandoned places in CT. I'm looking for places I can get into without TOO much trouble.

As a thank you, I've got some (amateur) photos of my own. Hope you enjoy!

Come in! )

Turning to photography as a creative outlet during a valiant fight with breast cancer at age 34, [info]renaissance10 survived and set up a photo contest to help raise funds for the Lavender Trust, a nonprofit that provides information and support to younger women with breast cancer. In the first two years, the competition brought in over £65,000 (that's $107,260.73 U.S.!), with entries from 130 countries last year. Renaissance10 recently joined LiveJournal to meet other passionate photographers and find supportive friends.
